What I actually want in a pitch
A tech reporter walks through the three things that make them open an email — and the one that makes them delete it.

1) What’s the best way to pitch you?
Email is the best format. If I don’t respond, hit me up on Twitter.
2) What’s the best time to pitch you?
Anytime works. I’ll just pick it up once I’m back in the office.
3) What tips would you give someone pitching you?
If it’s the first time you’re pitching to me, introduce yourself in the first paragraph. Or even better, schedule a short call so we can get to know each other.
This makes me feel as though we could develop a long-standing partnership, and that you’re not just looking for a single piece.
Following on from that, friendly introductions, small talk and praise of recent articles is always nice.
4) What are some of the biggest mistakes that people make when pitching you?
Not sending clear, concise pitches.
When half the story is quotes.
Offering to pay me to write an article. Best I’ve got so far is 0.25ETH! Thanks, but no.
5) What kind of stories interest you?
DeFi
NFT’s
All of the above
6) What will you never write about?
Promotional content
Uninteresting stories which won’t engage our audience.
Sub $5 million raises
Companies or individuals with a shady public image, bad track record or self-serving agenda. I’m thinking Craig Wright and Justin Sun here. We also don’t write much about Ripple these days due to the on-going SEC saga.
7) What’s the best pitch you ever got?
Pitches are like first dates. The best you’ve ever often doesn’t always have the best outcome.
8) Do you prefer to receive news in a press release or a different format?
Press release or blog post work fine.
9) How do you feel about embargoes?
Who doesn’t love an embargo?! Seriously though, it’s editors favorite form of news.
10) What’s the latest book or show that you would recommend?
Better Call Saul Season 6. It’s not out yet, but I know it's gonna be dope.

One good follow-up can revive a dead pitch. Three bad ones will get you blocked.
